With a concert on the May 14 release date at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre in New York City, Karen Jacobsen celebrated the release of her 8th studio album, navigating the audience through a set of her catchy, timeless, piano pop songs and breathy vocals, “recalculating” along the way.
Karen performed at the grand piano and welcomed special guest cellist Stephanie Winters whose recent credits include Saturday Night Live, a 2012 world premiere commission from Lincoln Center and a peace conference in Thailand.
An award-winning singer and songwriter pre-GPS fame, Karen’s musical career highlights include sharing the stage with Norah Jones, Christopher Cross and Spyro Gyra as well as singing The Star Spangled Banner at Madison Square Garden, Dodger Stadium and Giants Stadium (for 80 000 Jets fans).
Karen moved to New York City from Australia with a suitcase and a dream to follow in Olivia Newton-John’s footsteps. Since 2000 she has built a new life and business in the big apple, recording, writing, performing and speaking.
Her first new release in 5 years, (due to Motherhood to her now 5 year old son and building her empowerment brand The GPS Girl), Karen was moved to record this collection of songs after the events in Newtown CT on December 14th, 2012. “It was a deeply disturbing shock, especially having a son a similar age, and it became crystal clear to me it was time to record my next album and to be singing into people’s hearts again.”
